The Recursive Series

A series of digital art inspired by the illustrations of the artist M.C.Escher and mystery noire TV shows from the early 20th century. A bizarre and surprising universe created using recursive algorithms in old public domain pictures and movie frames, generating a contemporary look from the past.

With places, characters, and the atmosphere of a suspense story set in the 19th and early 20th centuries, this collection provides the basic elements and allows the story, the thread that connects the lives and relationships of the characters to be imagined by the viewer.

Each piece is done with the elements that are already in the original image. The main idea is to interfere using only what the image offers. Nothing is added, just reimagined, moved, scaled, and cloned almost infinitely.

This series was selected for the Spotlight section of the Vuo website, read the interview given by the artist explaining the creative process behind these works.

MAENAD IN A TRIP

In Delphi, Apollo was celebrated for 9 months, the remaining months were to Dionysus. Apollo was the god of music, and arts, while Dionysus was the god of theatre and wine.

The Pythia was the priestess of Apollo. Maenads the "mad women" were priestesses of the Dionysian cult. Their name translates as "raving ones" known as Bassarids, Bacchae, or Bacchantes.

The maenads were portrayed as inspired by Dionysus into a state of ecstatic frenzy through a combination of dancing and intoxication.
